Portfolio - Joe Gallagher
I’m Joe Gallagher, and this is my portfolio. I’m a transportation geographer. As a PhD student, I am looking at bus network redesign as “mobile policy” through its implementation in Baltimore City. As a transportation data analyst, I support the National Transit Database and other projects at the Federal Transit Administration. As a geographer, I am interested in how transportation infrastructure is leveraged in the production of captialist urban space. As a person, I like cities, contemporary fiction, modernist painters, and punk music.
I have extensive instructional experience as both a TA and as adjunct faculty. I have spent the last 18 months learning R and further developing skills in GIS in a variety of applications. I am turning my thesis, on new fare collection technology, into two papers. I just completed my second year as a PhD student at UMBC. I was previously at the University of Oklahoma and Temple University. For more on all that, check out my CV and Portfolio pages.
I make a zine about music in the Baltimore-DC metro called Parkway with my friend Emily Schweich. I have a cat named Wednesday and I am currently based in Baltimore City.
